The Club is born:
Paul Harris founded Rotary in Chicago in the year 1905. By 1910 there were 16 Clubs in the United States. Rotary crossed the boundaries of U.S.A. when Rotary clubs were formed in Canada and Great Britain in 1911. It was no longer confined to the United States.
The first Rotary Club of India was established in Calcutta while in our District, Rotary club of Gauhati South was the first Rotary club and received the charter on 1978. Earlier our club was in the RI Dist. 329 and now it is in Dist 3240.
The Initial Shape:
The Rotary Club of Duliajan was chartered in 23rd August, 1986. It is located near Dhobighat on Kamalabari Road in Duliajan, Assam in the name of Rotary Community Center. Earlier days, Rotarians used the Assam Gas Company’s Officers Club for its official functions and weekly Meetings.

Col. Rtn. T.B.B. Lahkar served as the club’s Founding President where Rtn. D.K. Talukdar & Rtn. J.N. Tamuli was Founder Secretary. The RC Duliajan was sponsored by Rotary Club of Dibrugarh with 20 active charter members. From its inception, the club has been driven by its guiding principle, "Service Above Self."
Brief Introduction
Duliajan, a small gram panchayat, plays a vital role in meeting the country’s energy demands, with major oil and gas companies such as OIL, AGCL, and DNPL operating in the region. The area is also surrounded by lush green tea gardens, enhancing its scenic beauty and charm.
The club is a part of Rotary International District 3240, which spans the north eastern region of India, bordered by Nepal, China, Bhutan, Myanmar, and Bangladesh. To the north lies the Himalayas, while the Bay of Bengal marks the southern boundary. District 3240 is one of the largest Rotary districts in the world, covering 295,607 square kilometers of diverse landscapes, including snow-capped mountains, rolling hills, expansive plains, and lush tea gardens.
Present Days strength/status
Currently, the Rotary Club of Duliajan has 51 dedicated active members. The club is actively involved in taking up new initiatives aligned with Rotary’s Seven Focus Areas, continuously striving to make a positive impact in the community and beyond.
Meeting time :
The Club used to meet on Monday at 7:30 p.m. (in Summer) and 7.00 pm (in winter) In the Rotary Community Center, Duliajan.
Permanent Project :
Apart from various one-time Projects Club has three Permanent Project which is running very successfully.
- Vocational Training Institute ‘Sarathi” where club provides free cutting, embroidery, screen printing training every year to underprivileged women of the nearby localities.
- Baikuntha Dham – RC Duliajan is maintaining the Hindu cremation ground in a very well mannered. Tree plantation drive and grass cutting has been taken care of time to time.
- Adult Literacy Centre – RC Duliajan is running an Adult Literacy Centre with the help of IWC Duliajan. More then 30 underprivileged girl, old persons got benefitted from this centre till now.
- Adoption of Village – We had adopted a Village which is known as Phekelajan under Bhadoi Panchali where we do lot of projects every year for better livelihood of the villagers.
District Grant Projects :
RC Duliajan carried out many District Grant Projects from its inception. Few of them are –
- Distribution of Bio Toilets
- Distribution of Wheel chair to Physically abled person
- Rotary Cloth Bank in OIL Market, Duliajan
- Rotary Public Bus Stand in Duliajan
- Distribution of Sewing Machines
- Separate Toilets for Girls/Boys in Schools
- Wash Basins to Schools
